THE CONCEPTS OF ‘METATEXTUALITY’ AND ‘METAFICTION’ IN LITERARY CRITICISM

Undoubtedly, the second half of 20th century and early 21st are notable for extensive artistic experiment, including metatextual metafictional phenomena. Such scholars as Gérard Genette, Anna Wierzbicka, Patricia Waugh, Linda Hutcheon, Robert Sholes, many others focused on mentioned issues in their research work. Therefore, this paper considers metatextuality metafiction theoretical perspective tracing origins its connections with postmodern literature. The terms ‘metatext’ ‘metafiction’ appeared rather close time. Notably, both them based discursive practices late century. However, term originated scholarly practice structuralism. It is obvious that was constructed by analogy concept ‘metalanguage’. Either does not exist without initial text (or language). Metatextual elements important analyzing styles, genres, types expression, functions, more. On other hand, has an connection genre studies. Metafiction qualifies a special kind literary became characteristic era. features self-referentiality introspection, self-consciousness essential aesthetics.
